Towards the end of the eighteenth century, the Soprani family lived and worked on the border between the municipalities of Recanati and Castelfidardo.

The first to set up a small workshop was Paolo Soprani, who began his great adventure in 1863, in the country house near the Musone river, with the collaboration of his brothers Nicola, Pasquale and Settimio, and the neighbouring farmers. Subsequently, Paolo moved his workshop to the center of Castelfidardo, in the larger rooms of Palazzo Gentili.
Given the surprising sales results and the increase in requests for accordions coming from all over Italy, the collaboration between Paolo Soprani and the brothers did not last long. Each of them undertakes the activity of harmonic manufacturer and sets up their own business in small workshops in the area of Castelfidardo and Recanati. The first of the Sopranos to leave Paolo’s workshop was his brother Settimio, who at the age of twenty-five, in 1885, opened a shop in via Cavour in Castelfidardo.
The real take-off of the accordion industry took place between the end of the nineteenth century and the first years of the twentieth century: in these years production increased, the number of workers grew and the name of the Castelfidardo accordion reached overseas, thanks to the artisans who emigrated especially in North America.
Today the city of Castelfidardo is considered the homeland of the accordion.
The original Settimio Soprani factory does not exist anymore but another very dedicated and competent company has bought the rights to produce these instruments again.
Since 2023 we added the Settimio Soprani brand to our chosen suppliers. All the stock we imported last year is sold now. We expect some new arrivals later this year.
